THE EUROPEAN Commission has cleared the 100% acquisition of Australia's WMC Resource Ltd by Switzerland's Xstrata plc, a Zurich-based international natural resources company that produces copper, zinc, gold, silver, alloys and coal. WMC explores, mines, processes and sells minerals, metals and chemicals, including nickel, copper, uranium oxide, gold and silver. Brussels fast-tracked the deal's competition approval and imposed no strings.
