January 1st, 2016 Foreign engineers and unexploded World War Two munitions experts are making significant progress to turn Munda Airport, in the Solomon Islands, into the Pacific nation's second international airport. At present, the Solomons only has Henderson Airport as an international-grade facility, meaning that aircraft are required to divert to Vanuatu, Fiji or Papua New Guinea if Henderson is closed, due to weather or other reasons.
