WTO CALLS FOR FOSSIL FUEL SUBSIDY REFORM TO FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE

THE WORLD Trade Organisation wants governments to fight climate change by scrapping subsidies promoting energy use. Its deputy director-general Harsha V Singh, told a Geneva conference held by the Global Subsidies Initiative, the International Institute for Sustainable Development and the UN Environment Programme: "Fossil fuel subsidy reform would accelerate our movement towards renewable, and less polluting, sources of energy."
