WORLD BANK LOAN WILL HELP ARGENTINA URANIUM MINE CLEAN-UP

BY KEITH NUTHALL THE WORLD Bank is lending Argentina US$30 million to help fund the safe decommissioning and cleansing of closed uranium mines in the country. The money will be spent by Argentina's National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA). The bank said it would enable Argentina "to meet its legal obligations to remediate closed uranium mines and milling facilities in a permanent manner, consistent with internationally accepted standards for the safe disposal and handling of hazardous materials."
