BY PACIFICA GODDARD Wine is not a particularly popular alcoholic beverage in most of Latin America, and only 1.94 billion litres were consumed in the region in 2009, according to Euromonitor International. Wine is also the only major beverage segment that has dropped in consumption per capita in Latin America in the last five years, from 3.8 litres in 2005 to 3.6 litres in 2009 (compared to almost 50 litres consumed per capita per year in France for example) said beverage information specialist Canadean.
