THE AMERICAN Textile Manufacturers Institute wants the US government to halt trade negotiations with Vietnam, while it gets an accurate picture of the abuse of its quotas by Chinese exporters illegally trans-shipping goods through their south-east Asian neighbour. The ATMI says the shipments of garments have inflated the levels for quotas that have been negotiated in key categories during the talks and is urging Washington to withdraw its offer until it can determine what is true Vietnamese trade and what is fraud.
