VIETNAM is taking a more active role in helping neighbouring Laos raise the quality of its workforce skills. The two countries have close political ties and similar levels of development, with the World Bank saying Laos had USD2,150 gross national income per capita in 2016, and Vietnam - USD2,050. However, Vietnam has by far the larger population – with 92.7 million people in 2016, compared to Laos’ 6.7 million.
