THERE is another side to the loss of life and devastation wreaked in the USA by hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Wilma and Dennis last year, a market reaction that has brought unsought benefits to the US paint and coatings industry. Increased public awareness for the need for storm protection coatings has seen American businesses and homeowners rush to make their premises hurricane safe in record numbers. The result for the coatings industry has been unprecedented sales and the paint business has not fared too badly either.
