IN A decision affecting individuals and employees from around the world but tax resident in America, US tax authorities ruled last month that same-sex couples legally married in jurisdictions that recognise their marriages will be treated as married for federal tax purposes.Any same-sex marriage legally entered into in one of the 50 US states, the District of Columbia, a US territory, or indeed in a foreign country, is covered by the ruling which applies whether or not the jurisdiction in which the couple lives recognises same-sex marriage.
