US LIGHTERS BAN

BY KEITH NUTHALL and MONICA DOBIETHE EUROPEAN Union (EU) has sent a critical diplomatic note to the United States about its ban on air passengers carrying cigarette lighters onboard US planes. The EU Council of Ministers voted to tell the US state department of its concerns about "the effectiveness of such a provision, given that current technology does not allow the effective detection of the lighters".
