US FTC: RETALIATORY DUTIES

BY KEITH NUTHALLTHE EUROPEAN Commission has lost patience with the United States and has moved to impose retaliatory duties on US shrimp and prawn (in airtight containers) and tuna exports over a row about American foreign sales corporations, which have been deemed illegal by the World Trade Organisation. The Commission has asked European Union (EU) ministers to impose a sliding scale of duties, starting at five per cent next March 1, followed by automatic monthly one per cent increases to reach 17 per cent by March 2005.
