January 1st, 2005 BY MONICA DOBIETHE USA government may further prioritise its anti-smoking initiatives after a recent survey showed that cancer has - for the first time - surpassed heart disease as the top killer of Americans younger than 85 years old. The American Cancer Society's annual statistical report said that while the number of deaths from both causes has fallen, improvements are more marked for heart disease.
