UK SUBMARINE CASE

THE EUROPEAN Commission is taking the British government to the European Court of Justice for breaking Euratom rules when disposing of waste from nuclear submarines being refitted and refuelled by Devonport Dockyards Ltd. Brussels says European law insists it must be consulted before any disposal of radioactive waste from a nuclear facility, but the UK's Environment Agency issued a licence for submarine waste disposal without EU permission. The Commission has to check for possible harm to another EU Member State.
