The UK Serious Fraud Office (SFO) has opened an investigation into the world’s biggest banknote and passport printing company De La Rue over its operations in South Sudan. UK-based De La Rue has held the contract to print South Sudan’s currency since the country was founded in 2011. In a brief July 23 statement, the SFO confirmed it had opened an investigation into the De La Rue group “and its associated persons” over “suspected corruption” in South Sudan.
