UK FAILING TO TACKLE GOVERNMENT-FOCUSED FRAUD, WHICH SPIRALLED DURING COVID-19

The UK government is failing to tackle fraud across all departments, according to the latest report (1) from Britain’s National Audit Office (NAO). Its assessment 'Tackling fraud and corruption against government' noted that fraud losses suffered by the UK government spiralled during the Covid-19 pandemic. It lost an estimated GBP21 billion (USD26.1 billion) to fraud in the two years covered by the 2020-21 and 2021-22 annual report and accounts, compared to a much lower GBP5.5 billion in 2018-19 and 2019-20.
