UK COAL AID

THE EUROPEAN Commission has approved state aid of GBPounds 60 million to be paid by the British government to support commercially viable investment coal production projects, maintaining access to reserves at mines that already have a secure future. The money will cover up to 30 per cent of fixed capital costs directly related to infrastructure work or mining equipment. EU rules allow state aid to be paid to maintain some indigenous European coal production.
