TURKEY LEAF SALES TO CRASH AFTER RECENT BOOM

TURKEY’S tobacco leaf industry enjoyed a boom year in 2013, with total tobacco production for the 2012 crop (purchased in 2013) up 52.6% to 69,348 kilogrammes (kg), according to data from Turkey’s Tobacco and Alcohol Market Regulatory Authority (Tütün ve Alkol Piyasası Düzenleme Kurumu - TAPDK). The total purchase price lifted 88% to Turkish Lira TRY803 million (USD355 million), while the number of producers grew 31.2% to 66,479.
