LEADING cigarette makers in the USA are changing their marketing materials and package labelling in response to a November decision by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to rescind its official guidance on the Cambridge Filter Method, which had been in place since 1966. As a result, the method loses its seal of approval from the FTC, preventing cigarette companies from claiming their tar and nicotine assessments were based on an FTC-accepted procedure.
