THE NEW TAX ON SUGARY DRINKS IN RUSSIA COULD COLLAPSE THE MARKET BY 30-40%

A new excise tax – on sugary drinks, of Russian Rubles RUB7 (EUR0.12 cents) per litre – could appear in Russia. The bill was adopted in the first reading by the State Duma on October 18. The new tax may be introduced as early as January 1, 2023. All soft drinks with added sugar (and other sweeteners, more than 5 grams per 100 ml of drink), would become excisable under the law.
