BY MONICA DOBIE
AMERICAN consumer groups are calling for a Congressional investigation into the death of a cow with symptoms of brain damage at a Texas slaughterhouse, whose body was sent to a rendering plant for animal food and by-products manufacture, without being tested for BSE. The USA Centre for Food Safety and the Government Accountability Project want Congress to examine why the cow was not tested and whether federal officials had ordered that no test be carried out.
