Keith NuthallEUROPEAN Union competition Commissioner Mario Monti has announced that Brussels is to clamp down on special tax regimes affecting financial services in 11 Member States, which it claims are probably so lax, they constitute illegal state aid payments that could unfairly favour local companies.In a speech to the European Parliament's economic and monetary affairs committee, Mr Monti said that in four cases, the Commission had already concluded that particular regimes could not be justified and has asked Member States to end such "tax breaks."These ...
