BY KEITH NUTHALLTHE EUROPEAN Commission has asked EU ministers to re-impose for another five years the existing definitive anti-dumping duties on imports of gas-fuelled, non-refillable pocket flint lighters and certain refillable pocket flint lighters, made in China and Taiwan. If approved, the rate of duty shall be set at Euro 0.065. The proposal follows an inquiry by Brussels into concerns voiced by the European Lighters Manufacturers Federation that the lapsing of the duties this year would lead to a fresh wave of cut-price lighters being sold in the EU.
