THE SUGAR refinery that gave a sweet name to a Houston suburb has been closed. Imperial Sugar has shut its Sugar Land, Texas, plant, blaming a US market glut and a poor geographical position. The company's Georgia and Louisiana plants, closer to cane crops, will handle current needs. The closure of the plants, which processed up to 1.4 million kilograms of granulated, brown and powdered sugar each day, will mean more than 300
