STATE AID APPROVED FOR GERMAN AND FRENCH AIRPORTS

THE EUROPEAN Commission has approved public subsidy investments into three airports in Germany (Dortmund, Leipzig/Halle and Niederrhein-Weeze) and three in France (Angoulême, Pau Pyrénées and Nîmes). In all cases, it found government-related financial injections were in line with European Union (EU) state aid rules. However for Nîmes, the Commission has also found that operator Ryanair was given a special access deal that broke EU competition rules and so is demanding the airline repay around EUR6.4 million.
