New standards outlined in a consultation paper by Health Canada, urge Ottawa to insist that cigarettes sold in Canada are designed to burn at lower temperatures or self-extinguish if a puff is not taken. The new measures would be designed to reduce the amount of house fires sparked by burning cigarettes.
