BY MONICA DOBIESCOTS may drink hard, smoke, and eat deep-fried pizzas with battered Mars bars, but obvious environmental factors do not explain why they are so prone to heart disease says a University of Edinburgh study, published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. Researchers say there is an "unknown X-factor" behind Scottish heart attacks, beyond diet, smoking and occasional poverty.
