SALMONELLA RULE MAY INCREASE EU SUPPLY OF EGGS FOR PROCESSING

NEW controls aimed at reducing salmonella poisoning from eggs have come into force across the European Union (EU) from January 1. Now, all eggs from flocks not monitored for Salmonella or found contaminated with the disease, must be processed into food products and pasteurised, and cannot be sold as table eggs. The rules cover EU and non-EU produced eggs. This will "reduce considerably the number of cases," said the European Commission.
