SALMON INFECTION

KEITH NUTHALL
A NEW outbreak of infectious salmon anaemia has been reported in Maine, the USA, by the Office International des Épizooties (OIE), the world animal health organisation. It says that 4,000 fish have been slaughtered because of the disease, at a farm in Cobscook Bay, Deep Cove; 7,000 fish were susceptible, it added. The OIE noted that this has been the fourth detection of infectious salmon anaemia in this region of Maine. Quarantine and movement restrictions have been imposed to prevent further contamination.
