SA MINE SAFETY

A REPORT from the South African Department of Minerals and Energy (DME) has said that the safety performance of the South African gold mining sector has shown a steady improvement, with its 174 deaths and 3,268 injuries being an improvement on 2001's 182 deaths and 3,374 injuries. There was a more pronounced improvement in South Africa's smaller coal sector and a neutral comparative performance regarding safety in the platinum and other mining sectors.
