PORK STOCKPILES

The European Commission is proposing to activate a scheme to help finance the private stock-piling of pork in response to the crisis in the sector. Brussels puts the cost at 30 million euros, covering 80,000 tonnes of meat. Market prices for pork have fallen by 16 per cent in the last three months.
