BY MONICA DOBIEWITH Sainsbury removing all plastic carrier bags from its checkouts for last Friday (April 27), handing out reusable paper bags made from 100% recyclable material, another nail is being hammered into the global reputation of this ubiquitous packaging.Usually costing 10p each, Sainsbury's hopes that giving people its 'bags for life' will encourage customers to keep and reuse the bags for future shopping trips. Sounds like progress, given plastic bags are made from oil, but such one-off stunts are probably a harbinger of more draconian future actions ...
