PIEBALGS CHP-RENEWABLE ENERGY DIRECTIVE PROMISE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

EUROPEAN Union (EU) energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs has responded positively to a European Parliament call for a new EU directive to promote heating and cooling from renewable energy sources. Speaking to MEPs, Piebalgs announced he would propose new legislation on this subject this year. The parliament had called in a report for the EU to lever public spending into such combined heat and power (CHP) technology, and while Piebalgs accepted the need for action, he said a directive would not just focus on money.
