INTERNATIONAL restrictions on using nine pesticides and producing dioxins and furans came into force last week (17-5), under the 2001 Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, which has now been ratified. The pesticides include aldrin, dieldrin, heptachlor, endrin, toxaphene, DDT, chlordane and mirex. A meeting promoting their replacement is due next May in Uruguay.
