When a terminal extension at Norway’s Oslo Gardermoen Airport was opened in 2017, it became the first airport terminal in the world to achieve a rating of excellent under the international sustainability standard BREEAM. It has subsequently achieved owner’s Avinor’s design objective of doubling floorspace and passenger capacity while reducing energy consumption by 50% compared with the existing terminal – which already had one of the best energy efficiency records in the world.
