THE EUROPEAN Commission is releasing Euro 18 million to improve the quality and safety of EU organic food, boosting standards in farming, manufacture, transportation and retail. The 'QualityLowInputFood' project will develop technologies assisting the production of organic tomatoes, lettuce, onions, potatoes, carrots, cabbages, apples, wheat, pork, dairy and poultry. A Mintel report says European consumers are now spending twice as much on organic food as in the late 1990s. *http://www.qlif.org/
