NOISE LEGISLATION

BY ALAN OSBORNNEW LEGISLATION limiting the amount of noise that employees may be exposed to at their place of work has been agreed by government ministers of the EU nations and the European Parliament and is likely to become European law before the end of the year.Under the new directive there will be a limit averaging 87 decibels calculated over a period of one week. The present limit is 90Db but Brussels said the decibel scale was "logarithmic not linear" and "87dB is considerably more protective than 90dB." The legislation will come into force three years ...
