NIGERIA LAUNCHED FIRST KYOTO PROTOCOL PROJECT

NIGERIA has launched its first project generating carbon credits under the Kyoto Protocol's Clean Development Mechanism: the construction of an efficient 120MW gas-fired power plant. This will boost unreliable power supplies in Aba, southern Nigeria, so that dirty on-site diesel generators are abandoned. The World Bank said its International Finance Corporation was considering investing US$30 million.
