NEW BERLIN AIRPORT FINANCING APPROVED BY EUROPEAN COMMISSION

BY KEITH NUTHALL THE FINANCING of the construction of a single major airport for Berlin has been approved by the European Commission. Under its powers to control government spending on large industrial investments, Brussels has accepted a Euro 2.4 billion 100% loan guarantee from the public shareholders of Flughafen Berlin Schönefeld GmbH. It has also approved an increase by Euro 654.5 million to the capital available and also a Euro 74 million infrastructure grant.
