A EUROPEAN Union (EU)-supported research project is designing car sensor equipment helping motorists avoid accidents at junctions and intersections. These are the location of 35-40% of all Europe traffic accidents in Europe, says the European Commission, and 70% of fatal crashes. The INTERSAFE project is developing advanced sensors, vehicle localisation algorithms and communications between automobiles and road infrastructure.
