MINISTERS APPROVE PEDESTRIAN SAFETY DESIGN LAWS FOR CARS

A COMPREHENSIVE package of design rules new cars aimed at making vehicles less dangerous to pedestrians has been approved by European Union (EU) ministers. The rules will come into force from January 2011, and immediately for heavier vehicles (of 2,500 kg and more). The standards insist on brake assist systems and other safety considerations, such as bumper design.
