MEPS BACK FAKE MEDICINES DIRECTIVE

BY KEITH NUTHALL A COMPREHENSIVE European Union (EU) directive combatting the sale of fake medicines has been approved by the European Parliament. The law - which still requires approval from the EU Council of Ministers - insists that Internet pharmacies must be authorised by member states to operate. It also authorises the European Commission to update and develop mandatory packaging and labelling features designed to help consumers and retailers assess the authenticity of pharmaceuticals.
