MEPS APPROVE EU PLASTIC BAG RESTRICTIONS

THE EUROPEAN Parliament today (Tuesday April 28) approved the long-debated proposal to limit the use of lightweight plastic bags within the European Union (EU). Backing an agreement struck with the EU Council of Ministers last November, the new EU directive will give member states two choices: *Reduce annual average consumption of non-biodegradable plastic bags to 90 lightweight bags (below 50 microns, 0.05 millimetres) per citizen by the end of 2019 and 40 bags by the end of 2025; or*Ensure that by the end of 2018, no more light plastic bags are handed over free ...
