MEAT INDUSTRY HAILS REOPENING OF US BEEF AND VEAL MARKET TO DUTCH EXPORTERS

The Netherlands meat sector is delighted that its beef and veal industry has won US government approval to export to America, after being blocked since 1998, when Washington imposed a ban on all European Union (EU) beef and veal exports because of BSE. Since then, the US has eased the ban to allow exports of beef and veal from Ireland and Lithuania, who are now joined by Dutch exporters. The announcement yesterday (February 29) was also warmly welcomed by the European Commission, while the US beef industry gave a more cautious reaction.
