BY PHILIP FINE LIVESTOCK and poultry producers could one day turn into oil distribution centres and clean up a nagging problem, thanks to a new process developed by the USA's West Virginia University. Its researchers have developed a process that turns farm animal manure into diesel fuel, mixing it with water, and heating it, causing an increase in pressure. The conditions of heat and pressure cause the water to react with the manure to form petroleum, in effect a speeding up of the natural process that creates fossil fuels.
