MANDATORY SEPARATE TEXTILE WASTE COLLECTION SCHEMES PROPOSED BY KEY EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT COMMITTEE

THE EUROPEAN Parliament's influential environment committee has tabled amendments to a revised European Union (EU) waste framework directive that would force member states to set up separate waste collection schemes by 2015 for textiles. Textile and clothing packaging would also come under pressure, with MEPs proposing that by 2020 at least 50% by weight of household waste is recycled, and 70% of manufacturing and industrial waste.
