LAWYERS representing Louisiana smokers have demanded a US state jury order several tobacco companies to pay more than US$1 billion to fund a quit-smoking programme, already approved in principle by a New Orleans court. Philip Morris USA, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Holdings Inc., Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp. and Lorillard Tobacco Co may have to pay.
