A FAILURE by the European Commission to realise that the current voluntary European Union (EU) logo for organic products could be confused for other existing symbols, means that a law making the EU logo compulsory will be delayed. Under a regulation agreed last year, the EU symbol was to be compulsory for pre-packaged organic foods from January 1, next year (2009), but the Commission now wants this delayed until July 2010, because the old symbol "is easily confusable with other logos, like the EU logos for quality production".
