LIVE ANIMAL EXPORT REFUNDS

BY ALAN OSBORNA SIGNIFICANT reduction of the number of cases for which an export refund can be granted for the trade in live animals has been announced by the European Commission. Brussels says it is acting to take account of animal welfare concerns. From today (Monday), export refunds will no longer be granted for slaughter animals, except to third countries "which need to satisfy their traditional demand for cultural and/or religious reasons," the Commission said.
