LATVIA JOINS EASTERN EUROPE ALLIANCE OVER EU EMISSIONS CAPS

BY KEITH NUTHALL LATVIA has joined the growing alliance of eastern European countries taking the European Commission to the European Court of Justice (ECJ), challenging what they regard as miserly carbon allowances within the European Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). Riga has joined Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Estonia in opposing their allocations by Brussels for emissions between 2008 and 2012.
