LATVIA FACES EU LEGAL ACTION OVER FAILURE TO LIBERALISE GROUNDHANDLING

BY KEITH NUTHALL LEGAL action has been instigated by the European Commission against Latvia, over the failure of the Baltic State's government to properly liberalise its groundhandling services. Brussels says Latvia has not implemented the EU's groundhandling directive 96/67/EC, which it was supposed to adopt as a condition of joining the union in 2004. It guarantees competition in passenger check-in, aircraft fuelling, catering, baggage handling and other services.
